When a minor character in the Israeli film Jellyfish, ended her own life, she left a note that for her would aptly conveys what she felt at that time. It was a Hebrew poem Meduzot, by Shera Geffen, and succesfully incorporated to the outline of the film's message. Her poetry borders on surrealism like the magical scenes on the film itself. I hereby translated it here.
But to translate jellyfish* in Tagalog gives me head-ache and I'm stumped. Does anybody know the meaning of it in Tagalog?
'Pagkat walang layag kundi kap'rasong trapo la'ang
At sa laylaya'y, puno ng igad*, nanga-uuhaw;
Mananatiling mataas at marayag.
Giliw...pakiusap
Sa 'yong pagababalik...siya'y hagkan!

HUNGARIAN RHAPSODY
J. Brenner, the renown sex-maniac-kees
Yesterday had been very very nosey
He'd stuck his fingers very very hairy
Up my bussiness, where, frankly, none of his.
"Parfait!" he said, "je ne comprendre pas Ingrease."
"You gotta be kidding", I protested, "aren't you the psycho-analyst,
Probing and delving down on psychosis?"
-"Relax, I'd be gentle, lie onto the bliss!"

HE 'S BACK
Last time he said adieu bid farewell, goodbye
Expresssed love's despair, breathed final sigh
Tumultous fans, friends shook heads in disbelief
Heavy-hearted river-god, Lethe, oblivious grief
Amidst the outcry, clamour, unanswered questions
Left a dent hollowed marks on everyone's imagination
Veered, swerved briefly, in uncertain opposite direction
Erstwhile, espousing new verses, ideals, sublime aspirations
Raising awareness, consciousness thru choruses and songs
Singing, shouting this time around 'bout live's sojourn,
Exposing injustices in any creeds, shapes or forms
Strange indeed, legendary, mythic...forever more.

REPONDRE A "UNFAMILIAR TERRITORY"
if fate misfortune blooms o'er this place
casts clouds of doubts and lingers
may seed bears fruits and be my grace
this troubled soul...seek ye, embrace,
as i lay slumber in blissful deep
find i true peace amidst uncertainties
and knew you well, wholeheartedly
as we crossed paths on this journey,
where fears be conquered thru solitudes
give us strengths and fortitudes
upon this sacred hollowed ground
be my rock...solid, crown.

PLAYFUL TUNES
I'll remember you...yuhoohoo yuhoohoo
In this summer...hot sisee hot sisee
When blown wind...whistle lee whistle lee
Caressed my soul...so tenderly
Don't you hear the song I pla...eey
The melody of childish things we say...hey hey
Armed embrace so swe...eet
Devotions to the rhythm of the beat
If our paths ever crossed again
To rainbow's arc...up in heaven
Where hope we bound to go...hoho
Swear to god...I love you so...

SA GILID NG LANGIT
bawat buhay
ay may nabubuong
mga kwento at kasaysayan
may makulay malungkot
masaya masalimuot
maganda malihim at magulo
masaya masalimuot
maganda malihim at magulo
bunga ito marahil ng kasalatan ng tao
kung kaya't siya'y laging naghahanap
nagsisikhay at umaasam
nagsisikhay at umaasam
makamit lang ang langit na gusto
maraming tulad nito sa mundo...
Ikaw... Siya at Ako
...sa loob ng kasaysayang
singlawak ng uniberso
singlawak ng uniberso
at doon mula roo'y
nabuo nabuhay nagkamalay
ang tuwat hinampo
mumunting kaligayahang
bahagi ng misteryo
bahagi ng misteryo
ganyan nga... ganyan nga tayo
tulad sa awiting
nagsasabing...
nagsasabing...
sa palad ko't sa palad mo'y
manipis ang gilid ng langit.
manipis ang gilid ng langit.

ILDEFONSO SANTOS
The American period in Philippine literature produces poets in the like of Ildefonso Santos.
Biglang humabagat, kahila-hilakbot
Ang inahing pipit, di pa sumisipot
Nabagbag na kaya sa hampas ng unos?
O gutom na gutom, O sabik na sabik!
Nangangaykay sila sa tindi ng lamig
Palaso ang ulang, pagtama'y masakit
Hagunot ng hangin ay kahindik-hindik
Nagbuka ang tuka ng tatlong inakay
Nagbuka ang pakpak na kampay-kampay
"Twit, twit, twit, Inang, inang, inang!"
"Twit, twit, twit, Kailan, kailan?
I am sure there are already various attempts in translating the above poem. And here is another which I translated not in toto as I don't want to sacrifice the tone and rhythm of the sad poem.
By their nestling top of the swaying tree
"Tweet, tweet, tweet!", in chorus they cried
"Tweet, tweet, tweet!", mother of mine.
Ominous clouds, gathering storm
Burst opened wide and came ashore
Yet the mother chick had not appear.
Could she be winded on her flight downstream?
The younglings are now truly starving
From sheer damp cold, they are shivering
The arrow-like rain are piercing
While the howling winds are terrifying.
The halpless chicks at this forsaken hours,
Were left and doomed in such quagmire.
"Tweet, tweet, tweet!", Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear!
"Would you be home soon?", If so, When? Near?
He hailed from the province of Bulacan where most of the dramatic poetry come into play and fruition. One of his famous poem is Tatlong Inakay, which profoundly etched into my young minds and to this day become a source of my son's education. I must have mentioned that he could not speak nor understand our native tounge, that in some ways I'd like to impart to him the rich vocabulary of our sad motherland.
TATLONG INAKAY
Nagbuka ang tuka ng tatlong inakay
Sa umiindayog na pugad sa duklay"
Twit, twit, twit!", ang paos na sigaw
"Twit, twit, twit!", Inang inang inang
Bagyong nagngangalit, hanging balaklaotBiglang humabagat, kahila-hilakbot
Ang inahing pipit, di pa sumisipot
Nabagbag na kaya sa hampas ng unos?
O gutom na gutom, O sabik na sabik!
Nangangaykay sila sa tindi ng lamig
Palaso ang ulang, pagtama'y masakit
Hagunot ng hangin ay kahindik-hindik
Nagbuka ang tuka ng tatlong inakay

"Twit, twit, twit, Kailan, kailan?

THREE LITTLE CHICKS
Three tiny chiks forked their beaksBy their nestling top of the swaying tree
"Tweet, tweet, tweet!", in chorus they cried
"Tweet, tweet, tweet!", mother of mine.
Ominous clouds, gathering storm
Burst opened wide and came ashore
Yet the mother chick had not appear.

TULAD NG DATI
This poem, Tulad ng Dati got my attention from blogger hopping. It was written sometimes in 2005 by a lad from Tondo named Jack. This is a short poem from his MUNDONG TULIRO blogspot.
dati ratiy sang tingin molang alam kona.
dati ratiy sang tingin molang alam kona.
