ANNE'E DU MOUCHARD

My distant cousin, scabby Carmen, is Chinese. I missed his Dad, my one and only Chinese uncle, because when we were young he used to give us some majo, (sweet grounded porks) and eat them with gusto like candy on top of other delicatessen like hopias (sweet- buns), and most especially during this Chinese New Year, tikoys (gelatinous rice cakes).

Once I asked, "But Uncle, we just celebrated New Year...then how come your still celebrating a new one?"

"Nephew, (Buboy...ikaw dami tanong tanong...basta ikaw kain na lang) it's just that...its al tladition...and don't ask tu menny questions... ukey? Happee Nyu Yil."
his reply with broken Chinese-Tagalog. And after a pregnant pause he'd spit.

Oh I missed him, he used to work at Umbuyan, Pitong Gatang, a drying and smoking fish business in our neck of the woods.

So there you go guys. HAPEE NYU YIL! GONG XI FA CHAI! 2008 YEAR OF THE RAT.
